Show Notes

This year’s Eckhardt speaker, the Rev. Dr. Miguel De La Torre, is a recognized international Fulbright scholar, celebrated author, and documentarian. Some of his books include Doing Christian Ethics from the Margins and Decolonizing Christianity.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, he gave his first lecture on Seeing Jesus Through the Lens of Immigration and showed a portion of the documentary "Trails of Hope and Terror."

Dr. De La Torre spoke on the history of the current immigration landscape. He posed the question, why fight for justice if it is hopeless? He addressed the freedom that can be found in hopelessness and shared, "I fight for justice because it defines the faith I claim I have, and more importantly, it defines my very humanity."

The Eckhardt Lecture Series is an endowed preaching/teaching event featuring a Biblical presentation of the Scriptures according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is for the Parish family of St. David’s and other peoples of the greater Austin community. Learn more at stdave.org/eckhardt.
